Disney Channel was a huge part of a lot of kids’ childhood. The unforgettable theme songs and unique characters helped make us who we are. Yet after shows like Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place, and Suite Life of Zack & Cody ended, so did good TV.
Disney’s stars like Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, and Selena Gomez grew older and didn’t want to play teenagers anymore. So Disney kept getting rid of good shows, with not enough quality shows to replace them. Producing shows like I Didn’t Do It and Best Friends Whenever, that not many people were happy with.
Sure there were a couple of good shows. Girl Meets World spinoff of 90’s show Boys Meets World did wonderfully, and parents enjoyed watching something that they had seen adapted to what their kids watch. Yet, Disney canceled it, when they really didn’t have to.
In the early 2010s, Disney made the wonderful decision of making the Trio of Greatness. Wander over Yonder, Star Vs the Forces of Evil, and the phenomenal Gravity Falls were the first animations since Phineas and Ferb to be, well great.
After finding massive success in animation shows and having a history dated back to 1930 of having great animations, they ignored all of that and continued making crappy shows.
They now have tried to make “relatable” content. As in your sister is your mother, everyone has depression, and there are multiple gun control episodes. (Plotline of Andi Mack.) And to me, that sounds more like a Freeform show than Disney.
In conclusion, the Disney company itself is fine as Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar do great. Even Disney movies do great. The channel though is going into a horrible direction. I wouldn’t be surprised if they just got rid of the channel and put everything now on Disney Plus. And at this point, I’d rather have that.
